Survey of Income and Program Participation Tables (SIPP): The Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP), administered by the U.S. Census Bureau, currently interviews respondents every four months over a roughly 4-year period. At each interview, respondents are asked about their health insurance coverage during each of the previous 4 months. Respondents are considered uninsured if they respond “no” to all of the coverage options; they are not asked directly if they are uninsured. The data permit estimates of the number lacking coverage at a particular point in time, for part of the year, and throughout the entire year. In addition to longer panels, the SIPP also has more detailed income and employment information than other surveys. The long length of the SIPP panels, however, results in a substantial loss of respondents over time.
