Tables by Data Source: CPS

Current Population Survey Tables (CPS): The Current Population Survey (CPS), administered by the U.S. Census Bureau, obtains data on the uninsured through its Annual Social and Economic Supplement conducted in March of each year. Estimates are based on responses to one interview with a cross section of the population. The CPS is a widely cited source of data on the uninsured, especially for historic trends. While the CPS questions ask about coverage during the previous calendar year and in theory should yield estimates of those uninsured all year, comparisons with other data sources suggest that the CPS estimates are much closer to “point in time” than full-year estimates.
