Measuring the Structural Effect of Depression on Changes in Insurance Coverage
Susan Ettner, UCLA
The primary goal of this project is to estimate the structural effect of depression on private and public insurance coverage, examining potential endogeneity bias through the use of longitudinal data and instrumental variables methods. Additional analyses will examine the role of employment as a possible mediator in the depression-insurance relationship. Data will come from the Partners in Care (PIC) study, a randomized controlled trial of depression quality improvement programs in managed care practices.
